Porta is a small village northwest of Corfu in a distance of 9 km from Kassiopi and 35 km from Corfu Town, built at an altitude of 353 meters on the slopes of the Mount Pantokratoras. In a distance of less than 10 km there is also the beautiful ecosystem Erimitis accessible only by hiking within the rich vegetation. During the winter time, the village has very few permanent residents. The winter season can be humid and frigid. During the summertime the population is vastly increased, but this part of Corfu is still considered non touristic, retaining its raw &amp; authentic personality. Our renovation works are non invasive, retaining the original elements of the building such as the mosaic floor, and bringing to surface the original elements of the building like the hidden wooden roof. Various found material found in sight, were repurposed to create new furniture. Στην έκθεση παρουσιάζονται επίσης έργα από τη σειρά εργαστηρίων τέχνης και βιολογίας Λεπιδόπτερα, που πραγματοποιήθηκαν στο πλαίσιο του REON Art Educator Residency με την προσκεκλημένη καλλιτέχνιδα Rose Crawford&nbsp;και σε συνεργασία με την Άννα Σορδίνα - Υπεύθυνη Εκπαιδευτικών Δράσεων του Μουσείου Καποδίστρια. Μέσα από την παρατήρηση και τη γνωριμία με τη βιολογία των φανταστικών πεταλούδων και νυχτοπεταλούδων της Κέρκυρας, η τέχνη λειτουργεί ως φορέας σύνδεσης και φροντίδας με μη ανθρώπινους οργανισμούς. Τα φετινά εργαστήρια πηλού του REON είχαν ως στόχο να καλλιεργήσουν τη δημιουργικότητα και την αυτοπεποίθηση των παιδιών μέσα από αισθητηριακή και χειρονακτική εργασία, ενισχύοντας τη σύνδεσή τους με τη φύση και το άμεσο περιβάλλον τους. Ευχαριστούμε θερμά τον Δήμο Βόρειας Κέρκυρας και την ΠΕΔ Ιονίων Νήσων, χάρη στους οποίους κατέστη δυνατός ο εξοπλισμός και η επανάχρηση του Παλιού Σχολείου. (EN) Welcome to the online exhibition of ceramic works Argilorama, featuring creations by the young artists who visited REON in 2025! The new participants created argiloramas — small clay universes shaped by their imagination, their hands, their experiences, and the world around them. The exhibition also presents works from the art and biology workshop series Lepidoptera, which took place as part of REON’s Art Educator Residency with guest artist Rose Crawford and in collaboration with Anne Sordinas - Educational Outreach Officer of the Capodistrias Museum.&nbsp;Through observation and an introduction to the biology of Corfu’s butterflies and moths, art becomes a vehicle for connection and care for non-human organisms. This year’s clay workshops at REON aimed to nurture children’s creativity and self-confidence through sensory and hands-on processes, while strengthening their connection to nature and their immediate surroundings. We would like to warmly thank the Municipality of North Corfu and the Union of Municipalities of the Ionian Islands, whose support made the equipment and reuse of the Old School building possible. The community clay workshops for children and teenagers, organized for the 4th consecutive year, are based on non-formal education and aim to develop the participants’ courage and confidence and act as a vessel for the expression of their creativity. Raku ceramics create earthy, unpredicatable pieces that evoke a sense of connection to nature and to the ability to welcome the unexpected. We'll start with a hands-on ceramic session where you'll shape your raku pieces using different hand-building techniques. You will be able to build whatever object you want while getting support for the best possible result. The items will be then bisque fired in the electric kiln, to have them ready for the next day. In the afternoon, we will build a special raku kiln. Day #02 We will start the day by glazing the biscuit ceramics.&nbsp; Once your ceramics are complete, we'll load the raku kiln with your creations and fire it during the afternoon. As the sun sets, the firing will start to take place, transforming your ceramics. On our side, we will do our best to foster an open and safe atmosphere for involved residents. We are keen to welcome professionals such as artists, researchers, designers, architects and other practitioners working across diverse approaches to clay. Recent graduates are welcome to apply, as well as individuals who have gotten through a gap in their career, without need for further justification. While the program centers on clay, we also consider proposals that do not directly engage with the material, but respond thoughtfully to the islandic context. Open to greek and international practisioners. Please note that, due to the terrain and existing infrastructure, the premises are currently not accessible to individuals with mobility impairments. We recognise that this exclusion is significant. As a grassroots initiative, we are not currently in a position to make the structural changes required, but we hope this could change in the future. RELATED TO LOCAL BUTTERFLY / MOTH ECOLOGYLast year, on the occasion of the first Art Educator Residency, we initiated a collaboration with the Ionian Butterfly Conservation and the Capodistrias Museum. With the facilitative support of these two insitutions, and wishing to offer a ground for cultivating further connections between local ecologies, their living beings, and artistic practices from elsewhere, we invite artists and educators, who are already working with, or are interested in developing, projects related to the butterflies and moths (of Corfu), alongside broader interconnected themes such as: attracting butterflies into a space — inviting symbiosis human–insect relationshipsstorytelling, mythology, and cultural narratives surrounding moths and butterflieslarvae, metamorphosis, and cocoons citizen science as an artistic methodologylarge-scale insect migrations and the environmental challenges they facethe role of butterflies and moths in the reproduction of wildflowers and cropsbutterflies and moths as model organisms for researching habitat loss, genetics, and migratory patterns Application procedure Please send your application to hello@reon-space.com including the following: + An artist portfolio in PDF format (max. 12 MB) and a short bio (an analytical CV is not required), mentioning name, surname and pronouns. Residency Experience &amp; Requirements Given the location, this is not a social residency. However, REON will be available to support your process and help facilitate connections for your project if needed. Residents are expected to take initiative in exploring and identifying the connections or resources they may require. It is important that residents find meaning in sharing part of their work or experience with the local community. This could take many forms, such as workshops for children, a collective dinner, or a demonstration of a special technique. REON encourages bold but also attentive to their crowd ideas. Ideally, the children will get to feel comfortable with sharing their ideas, comfortable with ambiguity, mistakes and experimentation. They will develop their confidence and courage. We welcome artists with teaching experience or those whose specific projects could benefit from the perspective of children, creating a dynamic exchange that sparks curiosity on both sides. English and Greek can be used for verbal communication. As an invited art educator resident, you will have the opportunity to discover (un)learning skills in a new territory. The studio will also be available for your personal work and reflection. Residents have the option to undertake a combined residency, dedicating part of their time to a project with the local children. This format allows for a dynamic exchange, where both the artist and the children can learn from and inspire each other. Facilities Besides a fully equipped ceramics studio, REON offers basic accommodation, all within the same building.&nbsp;There is the guest room with two single beds, a desk, an ensuite bathroom, and a door leading directly outside. Between the workspace and the guestroom, there is a connected living area, which includes a kitchenette, a laundry machine, a sofa-bed, and another bathroom. This in-between living space can be used also as a seperate sleeping spot, besides the guest-room. Depending on the period, you may have mostly private use of the space, though sharing the workspace may occasionally be necessary. Applicants are encouraged to specify their needs and any special requirements in the application. If&nbsp; preferred, a few apartments and villas are available nearby. The studio has a satellite internet connection activated during the months needed, and a water collector to ensure supply during the frequent water interruptions. We ask residents to use water thoughtfully, especially during summer, as the island faces pressure on its resources. A donation-based contribution toward utilities &amp; internet is appreciated but not required, and can be adapted according to each artist's circumstances. Renting a vehicle at your own cost (or sharing with another artist) is necessary, as the studio is in a village without public transportation. Walking or cycling alone is not viable. Many small, beautiful settlements and beaches are nearby. The closest village, Sinies, is a 10-minute drive and has a bakery and coffee shop. Kassiopi, a larger and more touristic village with a supermarket and several restaurants, is about 20 minutes away. Corfu town and the airport are approximately 60 minutes by car.
