About
from the greek [réon] : moving as in a stream, flowing, smoothly continuous
REON is an independent initiative founded in 2020 in Porta, a mountainous village near the Erimitis ecosystem in North East Corfu. Our mission is to transform an abandoned school —closed for more than 25 years, into a contemporary centre for ceramic arts, research, and education.
Our programmes address both artistic and social needs. We organise community workshops for local children and adults, providing access to the arts where opportunities are scarce. In 2022, we launched REON’s artist residency programme —the only residency in Corfu and one of the few non-profit initiatives of its kind in the Greek periphery. The residency creates a space of intimate exchange between artists, researchers, the natural landscape, cultural institutions, and the community. Through this programme, we connect the greek periphery with international networks one step at a time, contributing to broader conversations around art, ecology, and rural regeneration.
By revitalising an abandoned space into a living organism, we explore how small, independent initiatives can thrive in rural contexts.
