The open call for 2026-2027 will be online soon

REON’s Residency is an independent small scale program, slowly unfolding. It’s one of the few non-profit initiatives of its kind in the Greek periphery, taking place in the mountainous village of Porta on the island of Corfu, where it offers an inclusive and open-ended environment for work, research, rest and play.

Who can apply

The residency is only suited for highly independent, self-organized individuals. The residents should be comfortable with working, living and driving in a rural mountainous setting and be interested in engaging meaningfully with the terrain.

We are keen to welcome professionals such as artists, researchers, designer architects and other practitioners working across diverse approaches to clay. Recent graduates are welcome to apply, as well as individuals who have gotten through a gap in their career, without need for further justification. While the program centers on clay, we also consider proposals that do not directly engage with the material, but respond thoughtfully to the site and context of the island. Open to greek and international practisioners.

There is a possibility for a duo of artists or a (small) collective to apply. From our experience, we have realized that a parallel residency of two compatible residents might be fruitful and practical, since residents are able to share time and experiences together, as well as occuring costs. (eg. renting of a vehicle)

Please note that, due to the terrain and existing infrastructure, the premises are currently not accessible to individuals with mobility impairments. We recognise that this exclusion is significant. As a small, grassroots initiative, we are not currently in a position to make the structural changes required, but we hope this could change in the future.

Support & costs

Provided by REON:
Accommodation, access to a fully equipped ceramics studio, materials, facilitation and collaborative support

Covered by the artist:
Vehicle rental (essential), food, personal expenses, and transportation **
Voluntary contribution toward utilities/studio costs (excluding materials used in community projects)

Transportation **
Transportation costs for the Artist Educator Residency are fully covered. For the Artist Residency, there is a possibility that transportation expenses may also be covered fully or partially, depending on the available budget and whether the proposed project includes an element of engagement with local children.

Applicants are encouraged to seek additional funding in their home countries. REON is happy to provide a letter of acceptance, as previous residents have successfully secured external financial support.

You may also wish to consider the Studio Stay Program, a shorter and more flexible option (1-2 weeks), offered on a donation-based contribution model.

Residency Experience
& Requirements

Residents are invited to develop a project or research, new or existing, at their own pace, following their natural rhythms while spending time on location. The studio offers a quiet environment with plenty of natural light, ideal for focused work.

Given the location, this is not a social residency. However, REON will be available to support your process and help facilitate connections for your project if needed. Residents are expected to take initiative in exploring and identifying the connections or resources they may require.

It is important that residents find meaning in sharing part of their work or experience with the local community. This could take many forms, such as workshops for children, a collective dinner, or a demonstration of a special technique. We are happy to discuss your own ideas and explore together what might work best.

Part of the work created will be kept in REON's archive, decided together based on the project and residency type.

Following up 4 invigorating summers of childrens' community clay wokshops, in 2025 REON launched the innovative Art Educator Residency program. The goal is to create a fresh and intimate experience of contemporary art for the local children with the help of dedicated professionals who bring their own methods and expertise, or even develop new ones.

Art Educator Residency

During a concise period of 10–30 days, you will develop a project for local children (ages 5–13), including the required number of sessions. REON encourages bold but also attentive to their crowd ideas. Ideally, the children will get to feel comfortable with sharing their ideas, comfortable with ambiguity, mistakes and experimentation. They will develop their confidence and courage.

We welcome artists with teaching experience or those whose specific projects could benefit from the perspective of children, creating a dynamic exchange that sparks curiosity on both sides. English and Greek can be used for verbal communication.

As an invited art educator resident, you will have the opportunity to discover (un)learning skills in a new territory. The studio will also be available for your personal work and reflection.

Facilities

Besides a fully equipped ceramics studio, REON offers basic accommodation, all within the same building. The connected living area includes a kitchenette, a laundry machine, a sofa-bed, and a bathroom. There is also a guest room with two single beds, a desk, an ensuite bathroom, and a door leading directly outside.

Depending on the period, you may have mostly private use of the space, though sharing the workspace may occasionally be necessary. Applicants are encouraged to specify their needs and any special requirements in the application. If preferred, a few apartments and villas are available nearby.

The studio has a satellite internet connection activated during the months needed, and a water collector to ensure supply during the frequent water interruptions. We ask residents to use water thoughtfully especially during summer, as the island faces pressure on its resources. A donation-based contribution toward utilities, internet, and materials is appreciated but not required, and can be adapted according to each artist's circumstances.

Renting a vehicle at your own cost (or sharing with another artist) is necessary, as the studio is in a village without public transportation. Walking or cycling alone is not viable.

Many small, beautiful settlements and beaches are nearby. The closest village, Sinies, is a 10-minute drive and has a bakery and coffee shop. Kassiopi, a larger and more touristic village with a supermarket and several restaurants, is about 20 minutes away. Corfu town and the airport are approximately 60 minutes by car. (REON’s location).
