Rose Crawford was selected for the first Art Educator Residency at REON, where she developed a series of children’s workshops inspired by the butterflies and moths of Corfu.
Moving between art and biology, the workshops invited close observation and quiet attention: children created handmade insect journals from recycled materials, experimented with cyanotype prints, and shaped ceramic tiles using the cuerda seca technique. Through these processes, they formed a sense of connection with local species, learning not only how they live, but how to notice, care, and remain with them.
The program was enriched through REON’s collaboration with the Capodistrias Museum and the Ionian Butterfly Conservation, allowing creativity and scientific research to unfold together as a shared practice and basis for the children’s works.
